In 2023 I was invited by indie audio describer Kyle Warwick-Mathieu to co-write descriptions for Season 2 of the Australian drama series The Bureau of Magical Things.
I wound up writing 5 out of the 20 episodes and script-editing the rest; Kyle in turn was a fresh pair of eyes for my scripts, and made some necessary edits, for which I thank him. The scripts provided below are older versions, prior to edits, as the editing process removed the time-codes which I wish to preserve.
It was a hugely fun and, above all, valuable experience. I wrote a little about my experiences for script-editing Episode 01, but there were many further challenges and points of interest, such as a future/past episode (Episode 5), a musical (Episode 8), and an episode set in in Singapore.
It was also interesting to see how scripts could vary in length. The episodes are about 20 minutes, and I can see that the number of cues fell in the range of about 90 to 165.
The Scripts
This is independent audio-description: that is the scripts are unofficial and not commissioned by any corporation. I believe in cultural competency, inclusion and equality, and have attempted to describe the characters and situations fairly, without prejudice and without intent to offend.
