The blue police-box shape of the TARDIS rushes forward through the space-time vortex.
The Doctor's face, wide eyed and curly haired, forms in the tunnel of onrushing light; then is replaced by the words DOCTOR WHO in a diamond-shape logo.
The Sontaran Experiment.
By Bob Baker and Dave Martin.
Roth and Sarah are held captive.
A powerful, squat figure emerges from the ship.
The figure wears flexible metallic armour with a dome shaped helmet.
It removes its helmet from the wide locking collar.
Underneath are the lumpy, troll-like features of a Sontaran!
Harry watches from cover as the Sontaran stalks toward Sarah and looms over her.
He grasps Sarah’s neck, scrutinising her features.
Releasing her, he taps a device on his belt. The cords retract into the robots carapace, freeing Roth and Sarah.
(FAST) Styre speaks into a device.
Panicking, Roth runs. The Sontaran shoots him.
Roughly, he examines Sarah again.
Harry slips quietly away.
The ravine. The Doctor is trying to climb the steep slope using a tree branch.
The three Galsec men stand at the top, weapons drawn.
Harry explores the rocks.
He discovers a man wearing a GalSec uniform manacled to the rocks. He’s bearded, emaciated and dirty.
Harry examines him clinically, checking his eyes.
The ravine. The doctor hauls himself slowly and carefully up over the edge.
(FAST) The Doctor looks past him.
The silver, insect-like robot, comes up behind the men.
Surprised, they turn, and unleash a barrage of blaster fire.
But the Robot is immune to their weapons and advances on them. They are trapped between the robot and the ravine.
The cords whip out and catch Krans, then Vural, then Erak, pinning their arms.
At the rocks, Harry puts a wet cloth into the manacled mans mouth.
Weakly, the man sucks the water. Harry tugs ineffectually at the manacles.
Harry removes the cloth so the man can speak.
He mops the mans brow with the cloth.
The man nods weakly.
The ravine. The Doctor explores, working his way along the rocks and checking the tangled vegetation.
He discovers the cave entrance and sniffs at it.
He brushes back the foliage and crawls inside.
(FAST) Elsewhere among the rocks.
Sarah is sitting, manacled to a rock-face.
Styre licks his lips
Styre takes a device from his belt and presses a button.
He then stalks away throught a gap in the rocks.
Sarah tests her bonds.
Nearby, Harry, now equipped with a stout branch, jumps from rock to rock.
He sees Styre coming and takes cover.
He crouches behind an edifice of lichen-encrusted rock, branch held ready.
The Sontaran moves off in another direction.
In the cave, the Doctor squeezes through the narrow gap, and then emerges, wide-eyed, into the daylight.
He sets off towards the weathered granite outcrop.
Harry explores the rocks.
He bounds over the boulders and finds her, sitting, strapped to a rock face.
Harry recoils in pain.
He pushes his hands ineffectively against thin air.
Nearby, the Doctor climbs up the rocks.
Elsewhere among the rocks, Styre operates controls on a yellow globe with an inset screen.
He terminates the communication and speaks into his recording device.
Styre operates a control.
On the monitor, Sarah is waiting for Harry to return.
On her forehead is an alien device, a white oval, lined with red veins, with a metal protuberance like an extruded metal cog.
Her eyes suddenly notice movement down and to her left.
A snake, mottled green and brown, wraps its coils around her wrist.
Sarah shudders, but forces herself to look away.
When she looks back, there is no snake, just the ropes binding her wrist.
She looks up.
The top of the cliff looms over her. It seems like the boulders may topple at any time.
Now, the ground at her feet softens into thick, gelatinous mud. It heaves and swallows her legs ...
She is paralysed, eyes wide with fear, gasping for air, as it oozes higher, and higher ...
He burns out the forcefield generator in the rock with his sonic-screwdriver, and snatches the device from her forhead.
Sarah falls unconscious. The Doctor cradles her head.
(FAST) Styre emerges from a passage between the rocks.
(FAST) Styre swats the Doctor away.
He draws his gun.
Styre spins, but it’s a trick! The Doctor shoves him.
Styre raises his gun.
The Doctor dodges and runs. Styre adjusts his aim.
The Doctor falls.
Later, the robot drags the three GalSec men to the Sontaran space-craft
The door in the spherical craft opens and Styre emerges.
Styre stalks down the slope from his ship toward them.
Now at the rockface, Harry examines the unconscious Sarah.
Troubled, he gets up.
He nimbly jumps down and across the boulders to the body.
Seething, he grasps his heavy branch and stalks away to check on the galsec man nearby.
The pale man is unresponsive. Harry checks for a heartbeat.
Harry quickly takes cover, pressing himself against a rock-face.
Styre, still not wearing his helmet, emerges from a dark passage between the rocks.
He approaches the Galsec man.
The troll-like Sontaran roughly examines him.
He speaks into the wedge-shaped device.
Harry, gripping his club tightly, sneaks up on Styre as he dictates.
But before he can strike a hand clamps over his mouth.
It is the Doctor, who leads him quietly away.
He throws it away.
Leaving Harry, the Doctor clambers up the blocky granite boulders.
He makes his way along the top of the outcrop.
Meanwhile, Styre begins a new experiment.
Vural is lying shackled to a rock. Erak and Krans hold each end of a flattened bar above him.
Erak and Krans struggle with the bar as it changes weight.
Forced to their knees, they struggle to stop it crushing Vural.
The Doctor meanwhile warily approaches the iron-grey globe of the Sontaran space ship nestled in the rocks.
Alerted, the robot approaches and scans him.
Calmly he holds up his sonic-screwdriver.
The robot shudders, its articulated legs collapsing awkwardly, its head waving too and fro.
He looks towards the distant cry.
They struggle with the gravity bar.
The bar returns to normal and they lift it clear of Vural.
Styre stalks angrily away.
Erak strains against his bonds to reach his machete laying discarded nearby.
Styre meanhwile is at the communicator in the rocks.
Hidden, the Doctor eavesdrops.
The Doctor slips quietly away.
He takes Harry’s stout branch.
Styre has resumed his sadistic experiment.
Styre throws his gun down and grabs Erak’s machete.
The Doctor jumps down.
Styre lunges with the machete, but the Doctor parries and lands a blow as Styre stumbles into the rock face.
Styre spins and takes wild swipes, but the Doctor defensively guards himself with the branch.
The Doctor grins, goading Styre. Styre strikes again, and misses. The Doctor whacks Styres arm.
Meanwhile, Sarah and Harry rush in to help Erak and Krans lift the gravity bar from Vurals chest.
Styre, on the offensive, chases the Doctor, who climbs to higher ground on the giant boulders.
Harry now scrabbles over the rocks toward the Sontaran Space ship.
Styre, growing more enraged, strikes wildly at the Doctor and misses.
Meanwhile, Harry, armed with the Doctor’s sonic-screwdriver, points it at the Sontaran ship.
The door swings open.
Meanwhile, Styre's movements are increasingly laboured, his blows erratic.
The Sontaran staggers away, but the Doctor leaps from above, knocking him down.
They wrestle, but the powerful alien easily shrugs off the Doctors attack, and raises the machete.
Vural runs down the slope, followed by Erak and Krans.
He grabs the Sontarans arm. Styre turns and lands a lethal blow on Vurals neck.
Once again, the Doctor launches himself at Styre, knocking him to the ground.
Harry leaves the ship, carrying a mechanical component.
Using the Doctor's momemtum, Styre flips the Doctor over and throws him to the ground.
He staggers away, towards his ship.
With laboured steps he staggers into his ship.
The three of them run and take cover behind a boulder.
Smoke billows from the Sontaran scout ship, and Styre emerges, staggering, clutching the back of his neck.
He falls awkwardly.
As they watch, his golem-like face crumples like a balloon with the air let out, the tissues within collapsing.
The ship explodes in a magnesium white flash.
Sarah peeps up from behind a rock.
Then Harry and the Doctor.
Later, the Doctor finds Styres communication module, nestled in the rocks, and operates a control.
He grins, cat like.
At the transmat station, the Doctor, Sarah and Harry prepare to leave.
Erak and Krans step back to the edge of the circle.
The three dissapear …
… and he's gone.
